ONLINE PUBLIC DIALOGUES FOR 2020
Third Space Network announces the final Raw Hope of Humanity Rising public dialogue on Wednesday, September 2, 6:00-7:30pm ET-US: Real vs Fake. The interdisciplinary panel addresses what is real and what is fake, what is truth and what is fiction, and what is fact and what is a lie, and the resulting political impact of misinformation on Covid-19 and the run-up to the 2020 presidential election. The series is co-hosted by the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center in Washington, DC.
ONLINE ACCESS
Register and access the events by clicking on “SAVE MY SPOT” on the Online Access page. Online audiences are united in Crowdcast, a participatory third space of civic engagement & chat that activates public dialogue across the boundaries of the local and the remote.
CRITICAL ARGUMENTS FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
The fourth online public dialogue in the Raw Hope of Humanity Rising series, Real vs Fake, focuses on the breakdown of democratic ideals through misinformation and the distortion of reality. Our interdisciplinary panel from the arts and media studies will grapple with the impact of unfolding events in order to dissect and illuminate the complex array of crises we face today.
ONLINE EXHIBITION
Raw Hope of Humanity Rising includes an online exhibition, #rawhope of Artistic Mediation, a resource documenting recent political art in the form of exhibitions, performance, and other interventions. In this extraordinary and turbulent time of crisis in the US and around the world, we feel it is imperative to capture global instability through the artistic lens. We invite you to join the Raw Hope of Humanity Rising Facebook page where we are cataloguing and discussing artistic mediation.
ART & ACTIVISM INFORMATION HUB
In conjunction with the Raw Hope of Humanity Rising public dialogues, the Art & Activism Information Hub gives direct access to organizations on the front lines of art, social change & political action. The Hub is a community based initiative of the Third Space Network to provide a networking opportunity with artists, cultural producers & activists, encouraging dialogue to become real action. The following organizations have joined this effort: Current Movements, Grassroots DC Media Collective, AU College Democrats, and the Washington Project for the Arts.
ARTSEED STUDENT WORKSHOP
Twelve students, artists and Summer Fine Arts Intensive Interns from the ArtSeed arts education program in San Francisco, ranging from 7 to 65 years old, participated remotely in the public dialogue: “Idealism vs Cynicism.” This resulted in conversations about how environmental issues disproportionately affect the most marginalized and disadvantaged people worldwide. Who gets to be on computers and make art? Getting the earth’s leaders aligned with social justice and environmentally sustainable outcomes is a race with time for us all. These heartfelt and sometimes humorous exchanges planted seeds for their upcoming exhibition in San Francisco’s Presidio and in a virtual gallery at www.artseed.org.
