“It’s not the history of technology. It’s the history of human desire, this desire for connection.”

Welcome to the life, work, friends, family, and colleagues of Gene Youngblood. Gene died on April 6, 2021, at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but he has left behind a lasting legacy. This site is intended as an introduction to those who are just learning about his work, and to also provide a resource for artists, theorists, curators, and educators to use for scholarship and inspiration. The Gene Youngblood Archive is a work-in-progress, and over time, it will become a comprehensive repository for his thinking, his critique of media culture, his impact on the electronic arts, and his utopic vision for the future. Please join Gene in his call for “the utopian audacity to demand the impossible.”
