Two days after LigoranoReese’s DEMOCRACY ice sculpture melts on the National Mall (Oct 15), Zakros InterArts convenes an online public dialogue with Robin Bell, Nora Ligorano, and Marshall Reese, moderated by Randall Packer. We will discuss the power of artistic resistance to challenge the crisis of democracy.

“Our democracy is melting fast.”
— Marshall Reese

This installation is a project of UP IN ARMS, led by Ben Cohen (Ben & Jerry’s), which mobilizes artist actions to expose the accelerating militarization of U.S. life. Courts packed, districts carved, defense budgets bloated, domestic deployment normalized—the melt is the message.

On October 15, 2025, beginning 11:45am, the project is streaming from start to finish: http://meltedaway.com and on Vimeo.

Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese are visual artists collaborating as LigoranoReese since the mid-eighties. They make limited edition multiples, videos, sculptures, installations and temporary public events. They show their work in galleries and museums in the U.S. and Europe.

About Up in ArmsThe UP IN ARMS movement is led by Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben and Jerry’s. Its purpose is to take our country (and our tax dollars) back from the clutches of weapons manufacturers and war profiteers, and make it possible once again for Americans to be able to achieve the American Dream.
